A culture is a way of life of a particular group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, usually without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next. Culture has implications for medical care (medical anthropology) and even for for the practice of anesthesia. In June 2016 I gave a talk in Salzburg, Austria on this topic, drawing in part on my experience providing anesthesia in the United Arab Emirates. Here is the PowerPoint slideset (7 MB).
